| Note |
Robert Rue Vineyard, owned by Bob and Carlene Rue, is located on Wood Road just west of Santa Rosa. Along Wood Road are some of the best vineyards in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, all planted around the turn of the century by a large Italian family. As the daughters of this large family got married, the dowry for the young couple was their own 10-acre vineyard parcel. Many of these old vineyards have changed ownership, but all of them maintain the exceptional quality fruit planted more than a century ago by the original Italian immigrants.
The Rues purchased their 10-acre Wood Road vineyard in 1973, and since that time, have carefully nurtured this old field-blend vineyard. Predominately Zinfandel, this old head-trained, field-blend vineyard is interplanted with Petite Sirah, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet.
Wood Road is a bit of a banana belt for the cool Russian River Valley, but the grapes can still ripen pretty late in the season. The extra hang-time enriches and intensifies the grape flavors, which translates to rich, intense, full-bodied wine.
